Authenticating Outgoing Mail in OUTLOOK 2003

Sometimes e-mail users experience issues where they are able to recieve, but not send or reply to e-mails. In this isntance, one of the easiest solutions is often to verify that that outgoing mail is being authenticated. This tutorial will show you how to do that.


Tools Menu

After opening Outlook 2000, you'll first want to go to the "Tools" menu and select "E-mail Accounts".


E-mail Accounts 

After clicking on "E-mail Accounts" from the "Tools" menu, a window called "E-mail Accounts" will appear. You will want to make sure that you select the option "View or change existing directories or address books" under the "Directory" sub-category. After this is selected, click on the "Next" button to proceed.

In the next window window that appears, several fields will display different types of information about the account being edited. Select the "More Settings..." button to continue.


Internet E-mail Settings

After selecting the "Outgoing Server " tab, check the boxed marked "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and then click on "OK." After clicking "OK" exit out of all remaining windows.
